  1. Open a page and find the sound control

Narration belongs to a single page. Open the page editor and tap the sound control.
  2. Record your own voice

Tap record and read the page. Stop when you are done. You can preview the recording, remove it, or set its page narration volume.

This is free, unlimited, and needs no internet.

Tip. Record all your pages in one sitting, in a quiet room, holding the phone about a hand’s width away. Consistency across pages matters more than perfection on any one.

  3. Or import an audio file

MP3, M4A, WAV, AAC, and OGG are all accepted. Useful if you recorded on better equipment, or if a grandparent sent you a recording.
  4. Or generate narration (Studio Plus)

Where AI narration is available, you can have the app read your text in one of several curated voices. Review the words, voice, style, and two-credit cost before creating it. The result is attached to the page; preview it from the Sound screen, or remove it and create another.

This costs 2 credits per page and is capped at about 2,000 characters.

  5. Add story music

Music belongs to the whole project, not a page. In project settings, import an audio file, preview it, and set its volume. It loops across the finished export.
  6. Turn on Lower music under narration

One switch. When a page has narration, the music level drops so the voice stays clear. Leave it on unless you have a reason not to.
  7. Export and check

Export the video and listen to the whole thing once before sending it to anyone. See export a PDF or video.

A word about which narration to use

Generated narration is convenient and it sounds fine. But for a book your child will still have in twenty years, your own voice is worth the extra ten minutes. The technology is not the point of the object.

Use generated narration for a language you do not speak, for a long book you are short of time on, or when you want a different character voice.

Where the volume controls live

  • Per page — the page video’s sound and the narration level.
  • Per project — the story music level and the ducking switch.

Platform note

Heads up Full audio mixing in exported video currently ships on Android. On other platforms video exports without the mixed audio layers for now. PDF is unaffected. See the roadmap.
