  1. Start a new project

From Projects, tap New project, then choose a theme and a starting layout. Continue to Story settings.
  2. Choose Plan with AI

Choose Plan with AI and describe what the book should be about. This written premise, rather than a pre-ordered set of pictures, is what shapes the current planner.
  3. Set who it is for

Choose the 3–5, 6–8, or 9–12 reader band, and choose six, ten, or fourteen pages.
  4. Set the feel

Select at least one of Cozy, Funny, or Adventurous. You can select more than one.
  5. Decide whether to use Library suggestions

Suggest from my Library matches existing local assets without sending them anywhere. Improve matches with AI descriptions is separate and asks you to choose the exact previews sent to Gemini.
  6. Plan, review, then create

The button shows the one-credit planning cost. Review and edit the title, page text, artwork idea, layout, and Library suggestion. You may also select individual pages for AI artwork; the additional total cost is shown before you create the editable draft.

Treat it as a first draft, not an answer

The generated story exists so you are not staring at a blank page. It will get the shape roughly right and the voice roughly wrong, because it does not know your family. That is fine — editing text is free and unlimited.

The books people love are the ones where a parent rewrote the words. The draft just gets you to the rewriting stage faster.

Themes change the starting shape

Picture Story, Little Biography, Travel Diary, Family Keepsake, Milestone Book, Nature Journal, Learning Journey, and Blank Book each supply different starting prompts. They all open the same page editor after planning.

What it costs

One credit per generated page plan, regardless of length. Selected AI artwork is charged separately per image. Editing afterwards is free. If generation fails or is refused, the reserved credit is returned automatically.

If you would rather write it yourself

You should sometimes. Skip this guide entirely, add pages, and type. Everything else in the app works the same and costs nothing. See create your first project.
