Camera, microphone, and photo permissions

Grant or repair the permissions the app needs, and what still works if you refuse them.

You can refuse all of them

The app is built so that denying a permission never bricks it. Refuse everything and you can still draw on the canvas, build projects, write, lay out pages, and export. Permissions are requested at the moment you tap something that genuinely needs one, not in a wall at startup.

What each permission is for

PermissionUsed forIf you refuse
CameraTaking a photo, or photographing a paper drawingImport from your gallery, or draw on the canvas
PhotosImporting pictures and video clipsUse the camera, or draw on the canvas
MicrophoneRecording your own narrationImport an audio file, or skip narration

We do not ask for location, contacts, or anything else.

Turning a permission back on

Android — Settings → Apps → Doodle Dragon → Permissions.

iPhone or iPad — Settings → scroll to Doodle Dragon → toggle the permission.

After changing it, return to the app. You may need to reopen the screen you were on.

“Limited photo access” on iOS

If you chose Select Photos rather than Allow All, only the photos you picked are visible. To add more, go to Settings → Doodle Dragon → Photos → Edit Selected Photos, or switch to Allow All Photos.

The microphone records silence

  • Check something else is not already using the microphone — end any call or close another recording app.
  • On Android, some phones apply aggressive noise suppression. Try recording slightly closer.
  • Check the app’s microphone permission is actually granted rather than “ask every time”.

Supported devices

Android 7.0 and later, and iOS 15 and later. The app is portrait-first; a proper tablet and landscape layout is on the roadmap.

Video export is the most demanding thing the app does. It works on mid-range phones but it takes longer, and it needs free storage — see export problems.
